How We Test EMF Protection Products
Our product reviews follow a consistent testing methodology. Every Faraday bag, EMF shield, and protection product goes through the same evaluation process before we publish our findings.
Our Testing Equipment
We use calibrated RF meters and measurement tools to verify shielding claims:
- Tri-Field TF2 EMF Meter: Measures AC magnetic, AC electric, and RF fields (20MHz-6GHz range)
- RF Signal Strength Apps: Network Signal Info Pro, WiFi Analyzer for cross-verification
- Controlled Signal Sources: Dedicated 4G/5G phones, WiFi routers at fixed distances
Testing Standards Reference
Our testing methodology references industry standards for electromagnetic shielding:
- IEEE 299 – Standard method for measuring shielding effectiveness
- MIL-STD-188-125 – Military standard for HEMP shielding
- Attenuation measured in dB (decibels): 30dB = 99.9% reduction, 60dB = 99.9999% reduction
We report dB attenuation at key frequencies (900MHz cellular, 2.4GHz WiFi, 5GHz WiFi) whenever possible.
The Testing Process
Step 1: Baseline Measurement
Before any product testing, we record ambient EMF levels in our testing environment. This gives us a reference point for comparison.
Step 2: Signal Source Setup
We use consistent signal sources across all tests:
- Active cell phone with cellular, WiFi, and Bluetooth enabled
- Dedicated WiFi router at fixed distance
- GPS signal tracking enabled
Step 3: Product Testing
Each product is tested multiple times:
- Fresh out of package (new condition)
- Properly closed/sealed as intended
- Multiple orientations and positions
- Different signal types (cellular, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth)
Step 4: Measurement and Recording
We record dB attenuation for each signal type. Higher dB numbers mean better blocking. We consider 30+ dB effective blocking for most use cases.
Step 5: Build Quality Assessment
Beyond signal blocking, we evaluate:
- Material durability
- Closure mechanisms (Velcro, zippers, roll-tops)
- Stitching quality
- Overall construction

Our reviews include:

- Pros and cons based on real use
- Price-to-performance analysis
- Comparison with similar products
Independence Statement
We purchase most products ourselves at retail prices. When manufacturers send review units, we disclose this in the review. Our ratings are never influenced by affiliate commissions or manufacturer relationships.
